SLS to host PSA International during 2022 event calendar
The newly-dawned New Year will be of new experience for Sri Lanka Squash (SLS) as the body is set to host the International Professional Squash Association’s (PSA) tournament with the country set to stage for the first time.
The tournament, to see a maximum of 32 of the world’s best players participating, is to be worked off in May, and will be a highlight in SLS’s calendar of 2022, where other local and international action is also aimed to keep its players packed.
Of the several international assignments, the notable meets would be the – Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games – falling in back-to-back months of August to September. The trials for both those have already been slotted for the end of next month, where four main players and two standbys would be selected.
In the local category, of the nearly a dozen of local meets, the calendar has already begun with the recently concluded 41st Senior Nationals, the opening tournament for the year. An Air Force meet can also join the list of local events with their meet to be conducted either in August or September.
Along with the routine year, SLS has also organised various workshops and coaching camps. Among them would be the pool practices for both juniors and seniors targeting the Asian Championships.
