BCAS Campus Provides Innovative Training Programme For Civil Engineering Undergraduates

The British College of Applied Studies (BCAS) recently held a week long Survey Camp for Civil Engineering undergraduates in the beginning of January 2022, at the premises of Kothmale International Training Institute. It is a well-recognised institution for conducting Surveying related training programmes. BCAS, keeping in line with current educational trends, carried out the intensive training Survey Camp for 60 students from all over the island which is a training programme offered by universities across the world,, for the exclusive benefit and knowledge of Sri Lankan students. On each day of the course there are approximately eight hours of working in the field and three or more hours of calculation and drawing work. All of these important skills provide invaluable experience and knowledge for Sri Lanka’s future civil engineers.
SURVEY CAMP PROVIDES INTENSIVE TRAINING FOR BCAS UNDERGRADUATES
Furthermore, during the Survey Camp training, the BCAS undergraduates participating in the programme are divided into groups and accompany the practising surveyors on field trips. They are able to use their equipment in the field and experience first-hand the skills that are required for the civil engineering industry . There is also an in house computer lab training provided, where students are able to learn applications such as AutoCAD and Civil 3D at the Kothmale International Training Institute. The students use these programmes to take data collected from the field to develop topographic maps of the particular area. 
The primary aim of the Survey Camp is to enable BCAS undergraduates to understand and grasp the various aspects of civil engineering duties carried out in the industrial field by surveying, which includes determining the topography of a particular area with the help of map study, survey and reconnaissance work. This intensive one week training will provide the stepping stone needed for undergraduates who are planning on entering the very competitive and exciting field of civil engineering The skills and knowledge gained with the camp will last a lifetime and provide confidence for those students who are serious in launching a career in the field .
