Dinara wins singles; Anjalika, Neyara bag doubles titles

Dinara de Silva in the girl’s singles and the pair of Anjalika Kurera and Neyara Weerawansa in the Women’s doubles recorded easy wins to clinch the titles at the First Capitol SSC Open Tennis Tournament worked off yesterday at the SSC tennis courts.

Dinara brushed aside the challenge of Nishka Vivekanandan while Anjalika and Neyara defeated the pair of Nesangi Hemakumara and Vishmi Serasinghe by the identical winning margin of two sets to nil.

Meanwhile in the Girl’s Under 14 singles quarter finals saw Githmi Fernando, Gehansa Methnadi, Ralindee Mallawaarachchi and Oneli Samarawickrama coming out victorious to book the berth to the semifinals. The tournament will be continued today.

Results:
  •   Singles finals: Girl’s Under 18 – Dinara de Silva beat Nishka Vivekanandan 2-0 (6/0, 7/5).
  •   Doubles finals: Women’s Open – Anjalika Kurera/Neyara Weerawansa beat Nesangi Hemakumara/Vishmi Serasinghe 2-0 (6/0, 6/4).
  •  Singles quarter finals: Girl’s Under 14 – Githmi Fernando beat Arushi Thomas 2-0 (6/3, 7/6(4). Gehansa Methnadi beat Binudi Wijayawardena 2-0 (6/2, 6/1). Ralindee Mallawaarachchi beat Hesara Imihamy 2-0 (6/3, 6/3), Oneli Samarawickrama beat Akeesha Silva 2-0 (6/3, 6/2).
