Sri Lanka Cricket launches programme to donate cricket equipment to 650 schools

Sri Lanka Cricket launched a programme under its ‘National Pathway’ to donate cricket equipment to 650 schools across the country, in a bid to enhance school cricket. Under this programme, schools playing in the Under-13 and Under-15 tournaments conducted by the Schools Cricket Association in collaboration with Sri Lanka Cricket, will receive the donation of cricketing equipment.

Apart from it, 50 schools playing in the Under-19 Women’s Cricket Tournament conducted by the Schools Cricket Association in collaboration with Sri Lanka Cricket also will be given cricket equipment.

The equipment donated to each school consists of three bats, two helmets, three pairs of batting pads and gloves, a wicketkeeping pad and a set of gloves, and a team cricket bag for each school.

The distribution of cricket equipment commenced in Colombo, under the patronage of Namal Rajapaksa, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Shammi Silva, the President, Sri Lanka Cricket, Ravin Wickramaratne, the Vice President, Sri Lanka Cricket, Thilak Waththuhewa, the President, Schools Cricket Association, Sujeewa Godaliyedda and Samantha Dodanwela, Executive Committee members of Sri Lanka Cricket.

Oshara Panditharathna, the Deputy President of Schools Cricket Association, was also present during the event. Speaking during the occasion, Minister of Youth and Sports, Namal Rajapaksa, commended Sri Lanka Cricket led by Shammi Silva for the work done in order to promote the game, both at school and national level.

Commencing the national programme, 66 schools in the Colombo district were given cricketing equipment during the inaugural event held at the Duncan White Auditorium of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Sri Lanka Cricket will start distributing cricket equipment to rest of the schools in the country, with immediate effect. Apart from the donation of cricketing equipment, Sri Lanka Cricket will also take steps to enhance its programme towards developing cricketing infrastructure among the schools.
