Vocational training for students who do not qualify for G.C.E. A/L exams
View(s):The Manpower and Employment Department has planned to initiate a vocational training programme for students who did not qualify for the G.C.E. Advance Level (A/L) exams through the 2020 G.C.E. Ordinary Level (O/L) results.
Accordingly, there were 98,000 students who have not qualified for G.C.E. A/L through G.C.E. O/L results. The programme is implemented targeting students other than students who failed mathematics but then sit for the A/L exams on the basis of passing.
Students who are not eligible for A/L exams are identified at the Divisional Secretariat level and are expected to undergo vocational training according to their skills, abilities and interests. Later, they will be referred to the National Youth Crops training centres and National Youth Service Council as required.
The programme is to be implemented in two phases.
