Kandy’s old buses to be given new life as boutiques near jogging paths
Old buses that are no longer good enough to be used for public transport, should be converted into boutiques and placed near the jogging tracks in Kandy, District Coordinating Committee Chairman Wasanatha Yapa Bandara said recently.
This will benefit the people Mr. Bandara said, adding that he has already made arrangements for 20 dilapidated buses to be renovated in this manner, and placed near the jogging tracks in Gannoruwa.
Mr. Bandara made these comments at the ‘Building capacities of women groups on Human rights and Fundamental freedoms’ seminar held recently at the Royal Mall in Kandy. He attended as the chief guest of the event.
He said women hold a key position in society and they could bring the country forward, and he was glad to address this group of women who were active in their fields. He said the government would always help those who are in need.
The seminar was organised by the Kandy Women’s Development Centre.
Others who addressed the seminar were Assistant District Secretary Utpala Jayatatne, Women’s Development Centre Deputy Director Chandratilleke Liyanarachchi, District Secretary Anoma Pranatalawa, Kandurata Women’s Foundation Chairwoman Rohini Bangsajaya, and Kandy Municipal Council Member Fathima Masthura.
