ONUR’s mobile reconciliation programme goes North
View(s):The Ministry of Justice in collaboration with affiliated institutions launched the “Access to Justice Mobile Service Programme” from January 27 -30 in the districts of Jaffna, Mullaitivu, Kilinochchi, Mannar and Vavuniya with the objective of laying a solid foundation for long term peace and reconciliation.
The Office for National Unity and Reconciliation (ONUR) under the Ministry of Justice participated to educate government officials, university students, the youth and the public on projects and programmes conducted by them to promote peace and unity.
Students and lecturers of the Jaffna University took part in a discussion with Justice Minister Ali Sabri and Ministry officials to share views and concerns regarding the current reconciliation process. This was done through the Higher Education for Reconciliation Programme.
ONUR’s Conflict Transformation Programme conducted workshops with the participation of Government officials in the Vavuniya, Mannar, Jaffna, Mullaitivu and Kilinochchi districts to develop the district reconciliation action plan for 2022.
Minister Sabri also visited the Amma Achchi centres established through the economic engagement programme to enhance the income of the women-headed households in the Northern Province. At these centres women of the area are provided with facilities to prepare and sell traditional food varieties.
