Sri Lanka Squash drive enables qualifying of Players to PSA league
Sri Lanka Squash (SLS) issuing membership of the Professional Squash Association (PSA) to eligible national players and hosting local satellite tournaments in order for the players to earn the required qualifying ranking points has resulted in current’s men’s and women’s national champions – Ravindu Laksiri and Fathoum Issadeen – qualifying for the Bangamatha International PSA tournament to be held in Dhaka, Bangladesh from 18-22 March, 2022.
With ambitious plans for promotion of squash in motion, initiatives of SLS have facilitated the entry of SLS players to the PSA-sanctioned tournaments
SLS under the guidance of Minster of Sports and youth affairs Namal Rajapaksa, Sri Lanka National Sports council and High Performance Committee initiatives have provided players with PSA memberships enabling them to take part in PSA sanctioned tournaments. PSA tournaments are played by professional squash players all over the world. The membership has been extended to 6 national players including Laksiri, holder of the title for nine straight years and Isaadeen, for three successive years enabling them to take part in all eligible PSA tournaments.
In December,
Sri Lanka Squash hosted the first PSA satellite tournament in Sri Lanka enabling Sri Lankan squash players to participate and claim International ranking points in the world. With more PSA International and Satellite tournaments to be hosted in Sri Lanka our National players will get the opportunity to earn better International rankings and earn entry qualification for more International tournaments while getting the much needed international exposure.
