“The Newspaper” competes at Bengaluru film Fest

“The Newspaper”, directed by two actors Sarath Kothalawela and Kumara Thirimadura is competed at the ongoing 13 Bengaluru International Film Festival. The film is in the Asian Cinema Competition, the main competition section of the festival held from March 3 to 10 in Bengaluru in India.

‘The Newspaper’ will be competing along with 28 films from China, Japan, Iran, India and Philippine for the Best Asian film.

This year is special to the festival as International Federation of Film Producers Association, (FIAPF) has given accreditation to BIFFes. It marks as the 46th festival in the world to receive this recognition.

Graced by delegates, eminent filmmakers, celebrities and other dignitaries, the festival was inaugurated by Chief Minister of Karnataka Sri Basavaraj Bommai

In other sections, this year the festival will feature Critics week: Highly acclaimed world cinema curated by Film critics, Cinema of the world: showcasing the best of contemporary films globally, Oscar Spectrum: a special section of films that were part of the OSCAR contention and Retrospectives:

Volker Schlondorff (Germany) and Bharathi Vishnuvardhan

The festival will screen a total of 200 films from around 55 countries under various categories. Filmmakers of competition sections of Indian and Kannada films, film festival organizers, programmers, film critics, foreign consulate officials and representatives of the cultural centres and academicians are  participated as delegates and guests.

The film festival is being organized by the Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy for the Government of Karnataka. COVID-19 Pandemic has necessitated the postponement of most of the film festivals across the globe, likewise, 13th BIFFes was also postponed by a year compared to its previous editions. Bengaluru, the capital of Karnataka State in India, is an important centre of International film culture in keeping with Karnataka’s glorious heritage and the State’s achievements in the fields of literature, fine arts, and cinema.
