The Attorney General (AG) has filed an appeal in the Supreme Court challenging the acquittal of former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando and former Police Chief Pujith Jayasundara on charges including failure to take action to prevent the terrorist attack on 2019 Easter Sunday despite receiving sufficient intelligence.

In the appeal, the AG said the decision of the Colombo High Court Trial-at-Bar to acquit and release the accused without summoning the defendants after the conclusion of the hearing of the case was erroneous.

Therefore, the AG has requested that the decision be revoked and an order be issued to reconsider the case.
