Hallmark of Brightly College is to create global citizens
Educationist Andrew Fowler -Watt is the brainchild behind creating Brightly College located at a convenient and accessible location at the Innovation Tower at Colombo 4.
Mr. Fowler-Watt is a celebrated educator with a proven track record for many years in Sri Lanka and abroad as well. The institution was officially launched at a press conference held last week at the Colombo Innovation Tower with a pledge to deliver for Sri Lankan students aspiring to be global citizens. Brightly College is officially affiliated to the Cambridge University in the UK.
Speaking at the event, its Founding Principal Mr. Fowler -Watt said this was a perfect time for a new approach in the education system of Sri Lanka.
Brightly offers a different methodology and an application for students from any other institution in Sri Lanka. For students to be creative teachers have to be their inspiring facilitators. At Brightly College the subjects and teaching philosophy are differently relevant both academically and vocationally to the future of Sri Lankans and the world. Students can choose to study A-Level subjects like Marine Science, Travel and Tourism, Digital Media Design, Psychology, Drama or Textiles along with Mathematics, Economics Humanities and sciences. All teaching will be in the English Language and students are also taught empathy and to be sensitive to the needs of others.
Students can opt to study at Brightly College on a full time or part-time basis. During morning sessions – the college will offer more traditional subjects like mathematics, science and commerce while focusing on the new curriculum in the afternoon. This provides students with flexibility to join Brightly College full-time or remain at their present school and then come to Brightly for additional subjects or two during the afternoon. Brightly College will also develop an effective command of both spoken and written English along with their mother tongue, as a foundation -building platform for A Level students who seek to pursue their higher education abroad or in Sri Lanka.
Country Manager of Cambridge International Examinations Ms. Panchalika Kulatunga said they are a part of the Cambridge University in the UK and have been in Sri Lanka during the past 15 years. “We are the only examination Board operating globally backed by the Cambridge University and work around one thousand schools globally. We are happy that Brightly College has joined the Cambridge International examination,” she said.
