The Class of 2021 at AMDT School of Creativity had a memorable day on February 28, 2022. The AMDT School of Creativity hosted their graduation ceremony at Cinnamon Lakeside in Colombo, with Mr. Thayalan Bartlett the CEO of MullenLowe group Sri Lanka as the Chief Guest, inspiring the graduates.

Mr. Bartlett inspired the graduates in his keynote speech from his vast experience in the Creative industries heading leading Advertising agencies such as Wunderman Thompson (formally J Walter Thompson) and MullenLowe group Sri Lanka. “Creativity is a simple language that simplifies a complex set of things to influence the society at great scale. As young graduates, you need to start asking questions like what will I learn, how will I contribute, and what opportunities do I have to change the norm of things? As the next generation of Creatives, start by designing your own work ethics and attitudes. Cultivate and develop your values that will help shape the brand you are. Don’t be afraid to fail often so you can succeed sooner. ”

On this day, AMDTians from several Creative courses earned their graduation scrolls, including Graphic Design, Fashion Design, Animation and VFX, Film, Photography, Creative Advertising, Interior Design, and Web & App Development.

For college students, graduation is that once in a lifetime opportunity where they get to dress up in their graduation cap and gowns and attend the ceremony celebrating the end of a long journey and the start of a new chapter in their lives, whether it is entering the Creative Career of their dreams or continuing further on their higher studies. It’s a joyous moment for both kids and parents, and one that they missed for a while owing to the coronavirus pandemic. Class of 2021 grads are finally got their chance to shine in the limelight.

Ms. Vinodi Jayawardane, Founder/Director – Academic Affairs and Operations stated in her welcome address about how overjoyed she was to see the batch of 2021 at their graduation ceremony. She went on to state– “At AMDT School of Creativity, we teach our students to be Creative, imaginative, to think originally and unconventionally and not to be afraid to push the boundaries.

Above all, we teach students how to be good people. They are trained to be self-aware persons who value others. You all learn to be more optimistic by changing your attitudes. You’ve all learned to accept diversity, be open to new ideas, and be fearless in the face of the unknown. Having all of these characteristics and ideas has made you all “citizens of the Creative world.”

At the Graduation, officials’ speeches were said and graduates realise this is finally happening and they’ve gotten through it all. Parents can finally breathe a breadth of happiness that their financial and emotional support was worth it all, and lecturers are satisfied they’ve led yet another group into the Creative industries to pursue their passion and soon to take up leading positions. The emotional effect of freezing this moment in time is huge for both graduates and AMDT School of Creativity. They believe that each individual stepping out as AMDTians, will go on to enjoy life in their chosen Creative industry, full of experiences and ambition and become leaders in the future of Creativity.

Mr. Satheesh Kumar, Founder/Director – Brands and Technology of AMDT School of Creativity mentioned how they did not want to organize an online graduation as they wanted to make sure the students were together with their parents and loved ones on this very special day while adhering to COVID-19 safety guidelines. He stressed the students on taking up the challenge of remaining Creative as they excel in their careers, while stepping out of the comfort zone to do great work and respecting everyone along the way.

“I think that the most important skill for the future of work, or even in our personal lives, is the ability to adapt to change. And we all know that the future will be led by free-thinking, forward-looking, rule-bending, problem-solving, question-asking, social radicals…. Rebels… Creative people.

AMDT School of Creativity has journeyed 16 years now… and we’ve had the honour of partnering with UK’s Falmouth University, One of the world’s top 50 Creative schools worldwide. This partnership has provided us with the opportunity to learn and improve how we do things. The last year has greatly helped us in integrating and improving our working methods in comparison to how Falmouth operates in the UK in our final years. And recently we started integrating them into our first and second years. “

The Class of 2021 is unique; they are a class that finished their studies both online and on-campus, bravely facing the pandemic. However, AMDT School of Creativity knows how important the connection to campus is for their students and where they belong and where they will always be welcomed as alumni and be part of the growing Creative community worldwide!
