Sri Lanka Cricket donates 200 mattings to develop school cricket
View(s):Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) donated 200 cricket mattings to Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association (SLSCA) to be distributed among schools in the country. The donated mattings are now being distributed to schools playing Under-15, Under-17 and Under-19 cricket.
Accordingly, schools in Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Galle, Matara, Hambantota, Kandy, Kegalle, Nuwara Eliya, Matale, Kurunegala, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Puttalam, Badulla, Monaragala, Ratnapura, Jaffna, Trincomalee, Batticaloa, Ampara, Vavuniya, Mullaitivu, Mannar, and Kilinochchi will receive the donation.
The latest initiative is part of SLC’s annual distribution of cricket mattings to schools across the country in a bid to develop the game at the grass-root level. Apart from the 200 mattings, which are being distributed to schools, another 200 will be donated to schools in the near future.
This donation comes on the heels of the recent programme launched to donate cricket equipment to 650 schools across the country, which play in the cricket tournaments conducted by SLSCA.
Apart from the donation of cricketing equipment and matting, SLC has also developed cricketing infrastructure across schools in the country. Among the work done includes the construction of 200 concrete practice wickets, 50 side turf practice wickets, 25 centre turf wickets, and the distribution of 300 turf rollers.
