First half burst takes Police through to Cup segment
Police SC put up a brave first half performance to beat Army SC by 25 points (4 tries, 1 conversion, 1 penalty) to 7 points ( 1 try, 1 conversion) to win in their rugby encounter concluded at Police Park yesterday.
At the short breather winners led 25-0.
The winners came out firing in on all cylinders as they piled up their entire 25 points in the initial half.
Soliders defended well in the second half as Police could not make inroads to add up to the score.
Army SC scored their only try in the second half to lose 25-7.
Police scored their tries through Janith Chanaka, Mohan Wimlaratne, Suranga Kasun and Vageesha Weerasinghe. Yohan Peiris was on target with one of the try conversions plus put over a penalty for the Cops.
Meanwhile Soldiers only try was scored by Chanaka Gunaratne with Tharindu Hettiarachchi converting acurately.
With this win Police SC will play in the Cup segment as they occupy the 4th slot in the table.. Police SC ended the first round with 18 points while Air Force SC finished with 17 points.
Kandy SC, Havelock SC, CH and FC and Police SC will feature in the Cup segment while Air Force SC, Navy SC, Army SC and CR and FC will play in the Plate segment in round 2.
