The Journalism Awards for Excellence 2019 and 2020 were held on Tuesday at the Colombo Hilton Hotel.
The 21st and 22nd editions of the awards were held together this year as the events could not be held over the past two years owing to the COVID pandemic.
The awards were organised by the Editors’ Guild of Sri Lanka and the Sri Lanka Press Institute (SLPI).
The D. R. Wijewardena Award for Earning the Appreciation of Peers and the Public was awarded to the late Bandula Padmakumara. He was Editor Lakbima, Chairman Associated Newspapers of Ceylon, one-time secretary of The Editors’ Guild and author. His Award was received by Kumar Lopez, CEO SLPI, from Ranjit Wijewardene, President, Newspaper Society of Sri Lanka
Sports Journalist of the Year (2019 – English stream) Harsha Amarasinghe of the Daily Mirror receives the award from Duminda Sampath, President, Sri Lanka Working Journalists’ Association
The Mervyn de Silva Journalist of the Year (2020): Tharindu Uduwaragedara of Anidda receives the award from Kumar Nadesan and Siri Ranasinghe
