One of Sri Lanka’s top IT academic Tharanga Peiris attached to the Asia Pacific Institute of Information Technology( APIIT)-Sri Lanka, has been selected to present a paper at the 10th International Conference on Information and Education Technology( ICIET 2022) in Matsue, Japan to be staged from 9th-11th, 2022.

ICIET is the pivotal conference that happens annually where the most contemporary advances in the fields of Information and Education Technology is been discussed and shared to the world. The purpose of the conference is to improve the quality of instructions through the use of computers and how to move them to implementation globally. Doctoral candidate of Girne American University and a Faculty member of the APIIT Computer School Ms Peiris Will share to the world “ Study on challenges faced by non-state universities in adopting online tools: with special reference to APIIT. I hope the learnings will be useful other participants and academia voiced the Sri Lankan speaker Tharanga Peiris.

Sri Lanka was extremely vulnerable to the spread of the virus because of its thriving tourism industry and large expatriate population. The first case was detected on 27 January 2020, and the first Sri Lankan national tested positive for COVID-19 on 10 March 2020.2 In response, the Government of Sri Lanka rapidly introduced measures to curb the spread of the disease and imposed a strict island-wide lockdown on 16 March 2020. The pandemic caused large-scale disruption to the continuation of structured in-school education in Sri Lanka for approximately 4.2 million students and 235,000 teachers. The closing of schools for just one day caused a loss of about 25 million learning hours and 1.4 million teaching hours. Given the closure of schools for over one one can estimate the impact on Sri Lanka’s achievement of the SDG educational goals was the view from agencies like UNICEF.

The ICIET 2022 edition will cover Mobile learning, Apps for education, online/virtual Laboratories, Web Classroom applications, Classroom and Laboratory Integration and the the best practices globally. The speakers include Hussein Khansa, University of Montepellier,France, Yi( Jenna Li, Seattle Academy, USA, Neslihan Suzen, University of Leicester, UK and from
Sri Lanka Tharanga Peiris of APIIT.
