Teacher transfers to resume after a two year lapse
View(s):The transfer of teachers will shortly resume after a lapse of two years, an Education Ministry official said.
The annual transfer scheme for staff who have completed the maximum number of years in the same school and additional staff above the required numbers was suspended mainly due to the COVID-19 situation.
Once transfers resumed, an estimated 35,000 teachers would be entitled for transfers, the official said. However, the number could be higher, and a count would be made after the applications were submitted, the official added.
This time the transfers for national schools and provincial schools will be handed online, instead of the manual system usually used, he said.
School principals had also been requested to send information to the Education Ministry about status of their staff such as the number of students for each subject, the service period and the required staff.
Since the information was available online the principals would not be able to block or prevent the transfer of teachers, the official said.
The move to revive the transfer scheme comes into effect amid complaints about the unequal availability of teachers. Some schools were overstaffed and some schools were facing difficulties due to a lack of teachers.
The Ministry hoped to complete all transfers by the end of next month.
