Joes and Visaka continue their colours in the waters
In a rare sight of rival schools becoming joint-winners, arch-rivals St. Joseph’s and St. Peter’s came out on top sharing 28-points each in the men’s category, while Visaka Vidyalaya were the overall champions in the women’s category in the Pentathlon Swimming Championships 2022 that concluded last Monday (11).
In fact, both Joes and Visakians, champions of the National Age Group Relay Championships, worked off early this year, continued from where they left sharing the title and winning respectively, at Sugathadasa Swimming Complex.
In the final results, there was a distinct difference between the first-2 and the third, with the winners well ahead from the third place.
In the boys’ group, the darley road lads and the Bambalapitiya boys were in a distant 28, comparing with the only 10-points scored by Lyceum International, Nugegoda, coming in third place.
In the girls’ group, Visakians scored exactly two-dozen-points, ten points ahead of Lyceum International, Gampaha. Of the 24 won by the Visakians, they were placed in either of the first-3 in the U-13, 17, and 20 age groups, where national swimmer, Ganga Senavirathna, shun for her school.
Senavirathna, in fact, finished in second, clocking a total time of 7:35:77.
On the other hand, in the men’s category, Peterites won the U-13 group, their counterparts Joes claiming the U-15 and both the schools clinching the U-20 category.
