O/L students told to report to closest exam centre
View(s):In view of the fuel shortage in the country a request has been made to the Education Ministry to allow students sitting for the 2021 O/L exams to report to centres closest to their homes, by the Ceylon Teachers Union (CTU) last week.
CTU General Secretary Joseph Stalin said with the exams starting tomorrow and the fuel shortage in the country continuing this was the best solution for the children.
On Thursday, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said in Parliament that all non-essential state employees should stay home on Friday. He said only employees in essential services should be called in to work due to the country’s fuel shortage.
Although the Government said the crisis would ease on Friday, vehicles in lengthy fuel queues could be seen in many parts of the country.
“Therefore, children will be greatly inconvenienced to find transport to attend the exams on time,” Mr. Stalin said.
Last week the Exams Commissioner said it was the parents’ task to bring the children to the examination centres on time, after he was asked if arrangements had been made to provide public transport to O/L students.
Around 517,496 candidates would be sitting for the exams at 3742 centres tomorrow.
