Lending a hand to alleviate fuel sourcing
With the ongoing fuel crisis, various messaging platforms and social media pages are now
rallying together to help locate fuel sourcing points for everyday commuters. Now a few
undergraduates have come together to lend a hand as well via the Garage Lanka app.
The app is an ongoing start-up project, championed by undergraduates from the Universities of Moratuwa, Kelaniya, and Peradeniya. The team comprises Indunil Pathirana, Kavindu Pathberiya, Shavindi Pathirana, Nilushika Rajakaruna, Chethiya Nimeh, Madushan Ranasinghe, and Prasad Ravindu. The app enables users to locate fuel at a specific location while alerting users as well.
The Garage Lanka mobile application has registering options for a customer and for a specific
fuel station. The features of the application vary depending on the requirements at the point of
registration. The customers can search for a specific fuel type and locate the nearest available
station on the application’s map. It also provides a feature to be notified with alerts on fuel
availability on island-wide stations and other related information. The app also enables fuel
stations to display to customers the availability of fuel and if the station is open or closed.
Currently, the app has captured an audience of 5000+ users and nearly 100+ fuel stations have
registered with the application. The application is available via the Play Store and functions on
any Android device. The young developers are in the process of deploying the application to
make it accessible for the IOS platforms.
