Atha Hitha: Rotaract Club donates dry rations
View(s):The Rotaract Club of Central Campus organised a donation campaign to donate dry ration packs to over 50 underprivileged and lower income families in a small village located in Sigiriya.
The – “Atha Hitha” – project is one of the large scale initiatives that we’ve been able to complete amid this pandemic and economic downturn. Rtr Dulith Gurusinghe chaired the project, under the guidance of president of RtrPramod Vishwajith, the President of the club.
During Covid-19, Project Atha Hitha was initiated and carried out in response to a simple request from a local. We traveled from Colombo to Sigiriya with over 50 packs of daily essentials and dry rations, each valued over Rs 3,500, as part of our small attempt to create a better future under the SDG Zero to Hunger.
The Grama Seva Niladari lady in charge of the area was extremely helpful in identifying low-income and underprivileged families. We were able to supply these essential packs to the less privileged families in the neighborhood with the unceasing support of the Grama Seva Niladari.
Despite all of the setbacks and challenges, the steady stream of donations was critical to the project’s success. We would not have been able to successfully complete the project without the constant support of Rtr Anna Appathurai, who contributed to a great extent in reaching our donors, and Rtr Raveena Chandulani who coordinated the project with the Grama Seva Niladari from the village in Sigiriya during the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic.
