Trinity College drums and dance troupe celebrates 50 years
View(s):The ves induction for students of the Trinity College drums and dance troupe was held last Saturday to commemorate 50 years of the Trinity College Drum and Dancing National Troupe.
This was a part of the 150th anniversary celebrations of Trinity College which runs until January next year.
The troupe was formed in 1971 and was known as the Trinity College Ranga Salhawa. In 1976 it was officially named the Trinity College Drum and Dance Troupe.
Every two years ves is conferred on the students and this year the ceremony took place at the Natha Devale.
According to Chandra Jayaratne, the master in charge of the arrangements, he said the ceremony was conducted by those who are well versed with the ves rituals which were headed by the master of the rituals Sunil Chandrasiri.
