Sanudula wins Queen’s Chess title, earns a trip to witness World Chess Olympiad
View(s):Sanudula Dahamdi of Musaeus College won the Rating Category event of 1600-1799 of the Queen’s Chess Festival Blitz Chess Championships 2022 conducted by the FIDE Women’s Commission scoring seven points out of nine games.
She recorded wins against Pasipanodya Valentine of Zimbabwe, Jimenez Salas Maria Teresa of Peru, Davari Sara of Iran, Lampard Alice of Scotland, Castillo Beitia Ashley Alexandra of Panama and Orbe Vivero Veronica Priscila of Ecuador. Her two drawn games were against H.G. Pragnya of India and Vicze Zsofia of Austria, while she lost to Lea Stadlinger of Austria to obtain seven points and claim the gold medal.
On her fine performances, FIDE offered Sanudula the opportunity of witnessing the 44th FIDE Chess Olympiad 2022, which will begin in India on July 27. The Queen’s Chess Festival Online Blitz Chess Championships 2022, conducted by the Women Commission of FIDE for the second consecutive year in four rating categories, Under 1600, 1600-1799, 1800-1999 and 2000-2200, was held from June 5 to 26 June 2022 under the Tornelo Platform.
Over 1400 players from all over the world participated at this event in all four categories which was organised as four continental championships in Africa, America, Asia and Europe. The top three players of each continent played a round robin event in the finals. A total of 19 players from Sri Lanka participated in the qualification events.
