What happened outside never bothered me – Smith
Steve Smith who made his first Test century in 16 innings said that the developments outside the boundary line never bothered him, even though he could hear and see the developments. Smith was batting when the protestors marched to the ramparts of the Galle Fort, shouting slogans and carrying placards before settling in front of the ground.
“The country is in turmoil and people are outside having their say,” Smith, who hit 145 not out said at the post match press conference. “We can obviously hear it; we can still hear it now. But it didn’t really play a part in anything in the game.”
Though stumps were called on at 5.30pm concluding the second day’s play, protest continued till late into the night, celebrating the expected resignation of the President and Prime Minister.
“I don’t know if I have been playing for a while, but I can’t remember anything,” he said when asked whether he has ever-played under such circumstances. “Obviously there is a lot of wind here and it is pretty quiet outside with heaps of people here. So you can hear a lot. But it didn’t get to anyone or play a part in what was happening out here”.
