Joes continue unbeaten run

Unbeaten St. Joseph’s College ended the unbeaten run of Trinity College with a 20 points (2 tries, 2 conversions, 2 penalties) to 15 Points (2 tries, 1 conversion, 1 penalty) win in schools rugby at Pallekelle yesterday.
At the short breather winners led 17/8.
Joes settled down well in the early half almost scoring in the 7th minute of the game but falling short by inches from the try line. They took advantage of the Sheveen Premaratne clearance kick which fell in to the safe hands of Naveen Marasinghe who powered his way through for their first try. Dilhara Subash added the extra two points. A few minutes later Trinity Full Back, Kovida Wickremasinghe was on with a 40 meter penalty to reduce the gap by seven points to 3/10. Joes who kept on attacking in Trinity territory looked dangerous and scored through Rahela Jayawardena. Subash added the extra points. Trinity who used their three quarter line before the short breather touched down through their Centre, Ashen Wijesuriya. Trinity though kept on attacking in Joes territory failed to put the finishing touches and convert territory advantage in to points as the Darley Road outfits defense was rock solid.
After the turn around Joes put over a penalty through Dilhara Subash while the home team scored through Abdul Kaleel with Anuhas Kodituwakku adding the extra points. Though Trinity had a glimmer of hopes for a comeback Joes defense stood firm to remain unbeaten in their third outings of the season.
