UB40 have released the song ‘Champion’ which is the official Commonwealth Games 2022 anthem. The track features Dapz On The Map and Gilly G. The band was formed in Birmingham. The Commonwealth Games will be held in Birmingham from July 28 – August 8. UB40, meanwhile are celebrating 45 years in the music scene with the album ‘UB45’ release.
Amy Winehouse biopic taking shape
A biopic on the late singer Amy Winehouse is going to take shape after a long delay. The film titled Back To Back, named after her second and final album will be directed by Sam Taylor –Johnson. The project has the support of Amy family. The singer died aged 27 in 2011.
Burna Boy secures top 10 hit on the UK singles chart
Bruna Boy has secured a top 10 hit on the UK singles chart with ‘Last Last’. The song made its way to the top 10 from 12 to No: 7 this week. ‘Last Last’ is the debut release from Bruna Boy’s sixth album ‘Love Damini’. The Afrobeat track samples Toni Braxton’s ‘He Was Not Man Enough’ from 2000. ‘Last Last’ is the Nigerian born London based artist’s first UK top 10 song on his own steam. Previously he was featured on Stormzy’s No: 1 ‘Own it’ in 2019 with Ed Sheeran. Bruna Boy’s current hit song took nine weeks to reach the top, starting its journey from No: 58 without faltering.
David Guetta, Becky Hill and Ella Henderson join force on EDM pop song
David Guetta, Becky Hill and Ella Henderson have joined forces on the EDM, house pop song ‘Crazy What Love Can Do’. The French DJ and producer David Guetta leads the way with the song’s base with the two popular English singers Becky Hill and Ella Henderson belting out the vocals. Henderson is at No: 10 as vocalist on Nathan Dawe’s hit ’21 Reasons’. With the sweltering summer prevailing it is as if about time ‘Crazy What Love Can Do’ arrived on the UK top 10. The track has taken 14 weeks to come thus far from the debut position of 20. It has been a mercurial movement with this week jumping up from 11 to No: 8, thanks to Ella Henderson performing the song on the dating game show Love Island a few days earlier. The song which is about female empowerment, is a standalone track.
Paul Ryder founding bass player of Happy Monday passes away
Paul Ryder the founding bass player of the Happy Monday has passed away suddenly on July 15 at the age of 58. Happy Mondays were formed in 1980 with Paul’s brother Shaun as the leader. The group was part of the Manchester sound in the 90s. The band disbanded and regrouped several times. They have been together in the present form for last 10 years. ‘Kinky Afro’ and ‘Step On’ were the band’s two biggest songs. Their most successful album was ‘Phills ‘n’ Thrills And Bellyaches’ was released in 1990. Paul was due to play with the band on 15th July at the Kubix festival, Sunderland, England.
