The Vavuniya University had signed 15 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)s with community and industry organisations recently coinciding with the Commemoration of the Silver Jubilee of the Business Faculty, the Faculty’s Dean, Dr. Yogarajah Nanthagopan said recently.

“The idea behind the MoUs is to share the capacities of the university and other stakeholders to better serve the students and the community as a whole,” he said.

Alongside such a function, the MoUs would try and meet common aims and develop the standards, techniques and practices of the business and project management fields to empower human resources at the national and international levels.

As part of the collaboration opportunities would also be provided for field trips, cap stone projects, educational programmes, seminars, workshops, conferences, research projects, publications and joint community projects of mutual benefit, Dr. Nanthagopan also said.

The Dean also highlighted the creation of a multi-stakeholder network unit as part of the collaborative effort. Such a unit will do a need analysis of small and medium enterprises in the Vavuniya and Mullaitivu areas. The areas those businesses need most support for would be analysed.

Dr. Nanthagoopan said the stated network would also provide any sort of business support, from providing leadership, funds, product development and connections with large enterprises and industrial boards. All organisations that signed the MoUs would provide support in their own manner.

The industries and community organisations that were selected had different capacities with their own funds and leadership methods.

Additionally, the Dean also mentioned that the network would have a management committee that would come from the Vavuniya University’s Business Faculty and from business and community organisations such as NGOs. At the same time an academic project manager would be part of the support team that would assist the SMEs.
