President’s Fund dormant for two years; revival begins
View(s):The President’s Fund which gives money for medical operations and relief for poor has not been in operation in the past two years, despite having Rs 4 billion in the fund, a senior official said.
As a result, some 7,000 applications including those seeking funds for surgery carried out or proposed operations have been held up.
The Sunday Times learns that an Additional Secretary in charge of the section has been transferred and another officer has been entrusted with the duties with instructions that the backlog be cleared in the next three months.
Instructions have also gone out to increase the number of scholarships for under-privileged children.
Among the other changes to be introduced is a system where applicants could send their requests online.
