CSSL Vice President appointed as the Director of UCSC
View(s):Dr. Ajantha Atukorale has been named the fifth director of the prestigious University of Colombo School of Computing (UCSC) . Professor K. P Hewagamage, a CSSL member, who has held the position for the past six years, is succeeded by Dr Ajantha Atukorale.
Professor V. K. Samaranayake founded UCSC in 2002, and it has made a substantial contribution to producing outstanding ICT graduates who have excelled both locally and internationally.
Dr. Ajantha Atukorale is a major industry contributor who has served on the executive council of the Computer Society of Sri Lanka (CSSL) since 2014, holding several posts before being elected as Vice President in 2021.
Dr. Ajantha Atukorale received his B.Sc. Degree with a first-class honors in Computer Science from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka, in 1995 with three awards at the degree convocation, Prof. Mohan Munasinghe Award for the performances in Computer Science for the year 1995, Computer Award for the best undergraduate project by SLAAS and CINTEC Award for the best Computer Science final year project in 1995 by CINTEC. In 2002, he received his Ph.D. in Computer Science in the area of Neural Pattern Recognition from the University of Queensland, Australia.
Dr. Ajantha Atukorale is a member of the CSSL Accreditation Board (CSSLAB) and the coordinator of the CSSL degree accreditation and Seoul Accord accreditation processes.
President CSSL Damith Hettihewa commenting on the new appointment said “We all at CSSL extend our warmest congratulations to our vice president Dr. Ajanta Atukorale. His achievement sets an example for young ICT graduates who excel in academic affairs to follow his footsteps to work closely with the industry for the betterment of professional standards and development of the ICT Industry. The Computer Society of Sri Lanka (CSSL), which was established in 1976, is the apex body representing Information and Communications Technology (ICT) professionals in Sri Lanka. The CSSL is a member of the South East Asia Regional Computer Confederation (SEARCC) and the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP). CSSL is also a provisional signatory of Seoul Accord through which CSSL fosters raising the standards of ICT related degrees to Sri Lanka to international standards. Seoul Accord is the international accreditation agreement for professional computing and information technology academic degrees, between the professional bodies in its signatory countries such as Australia, Canada, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, China, Japan, Korea, the United Kingdom, and the United states etc.
