Ed. Ministry to discuss fuel quota with school van drivers

To discuss the possibilities of increasing the fuel quota for school vans in view of the decision to fully reopen schools from this week onwards, the Education Ministry has called for a discussion with school van drivers next week.

An Education Ministry official said Ceylon Petroleum Corporation officials too will be at the meeting.

The move comes following complaints that the quota provided to school vans was not sufficient as schools were now operational on all five days.

The previous quota was provided to them on the basis that schools would be open only for three days.

Under the new scheme, the Ministry hoped the CPC would increase the quota only for school vans which were actively used to transport school children.

Some van drivers said they were not fully operational this week in view of fuel shortages and the strict quota.
