Hindi classes begin at Jaffna Hindu College for students and old boys
View(s):Jaffna Hindu College’s foreign languages learning unit began Hindi classes on Wednesday for students who are willing to learn the official language of India.
Current students and old boys can attend classes to gain fluency in the language, and the initiative is supported by the Consulate General of India in Jaffna.
The unit was also scheduled to begin classes for other languages such as French and German in the coming weeks, an official from the school said.
“This initiative will assist our students to gain language proficiency in Hindi which will be helpful for them to secure scholarships in Indian universities in future,” the official said.
In the wake of India’s Independence Day celebrations on Monday, the Consulate General’s office also brought in a Hindi language teaching resource person to conduct classes. This was the first time Hindi language classes were held in a leading school in the Northern region. (SR)
