Gateway offers more choices at Advanced Level

There is no “one-size-fits-all” in education today in meeting a student’s career aspirations. Gateway College is proud to offer the largest and the most comprehensive selection of educational choices – so that parents and students can choose the best education programme for academic growth and success.

The options available for the students after OL/IGCSE at Gateway are:

4 UK Advanced Level subjects

3 UK Advanced Level subjects and

The University of Arizona early University Programme or

Level 4 International Diploma in Computing from NCC Education, UK or

Level 4 International Diploma in Business from NCC Education, UK or

(The three programmes above allow students to earn up to one year of credit, enabling them to go directly into the second year of an undergraduate degree)

ACTL Diplomas in Performing from Trinity College, London (equivalent in standard to the first year of an undergraduate degree course)

2 UK Advanced Level subjects and a Pearson BTEC International Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Sport (equivalent to 1.5 A Level subjects)

Australian Senior Secondary Certificate of Education – SACE (a globally recognised pre-university programme that provides entry into the world’s top universities)

The International Foundation Programme from NCC Education UK as an alternative to the traditional ALs to enter many Universities worldwide.

The range of subjects offered at Advanced Level Science, Business and Humanities sectors include Mathematics, Further Maths, Pure Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Economics, Business, Accounting, Computer Science, English Literature, Geography, History, Psychology, Law, Drama and Sport. They have been arranged in a way where even uncommon combinations of subjects can be taken to suit the students’ future careers. Gateway strongly encourages the students who wish to pursue demanding careers such as Medicine and Engineering to study four AL subjects.

The Australian Secondary Certificate of Education – SACE (equivalent of IGCSE & AL) offered through SACE International is a unique programme offered only at Gateway. This provides students an alternative to the UK AL route. SACE is not just another universally accepted qualification but a programme that takes a divergent approach, which is flexible and student-centred where continuous assessments play a key role. A large array of subjects that include English, Mathematics, Mathematical Methods, Specialist Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Accounting, Business Innovation, Economics, Psychology and Digital Technologies are currently offered under this qualification at Gateway College.

Exposure to a rounded education

Students taking all these options also have access to a wide range of sports and co-curricular activities. The school offers a wide range of sports that include Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Chess, Cricket, Football, Karate, Netball, Tennis, Table Tennis, Rowing, Swimming, Squash, Scrabble and eSports and an array of clubs and societies. While all students are encouraged to take part in at least one sport and one club, the students who excel in their chosen fields, are provided with the maximum support to reach their highest potential.

Gateway’s ‘Founder’s Award’, a mandatory programme for A Level students, is designed to recognise and celebrate the achievements of students outside of the classroom. The self- empowering, non-competitive programme is considered under four areas – Volunteering, Internship, Skills and Sport and Adventure (VISA), the Award lets students set their own goals, develop what they already do and discover their passion on aspects never explored before.

The areas covered in the Founder’s Award are compatible with much of the requirements for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, and those interested can register and complete it under the supervision of a mentor appointed by the school.

These programmes and the workshops on soft skills development offered to all AL students prepare them for University and the workplace.

The schools’ Career Counselling and Guidance Units offer extensive support in securing University placements and academic scholarships. The firm, friendly and fair environment that prevails within the schools helps Gateway students receive the finest global education within our unique cultural heritage.

Scholarships

Gateway’s policy regarding scholarships is to reward its own students who reach outstanding heights in academics, sports and co-curricular activities; and to offer a few deserving students who wish to join the school, having exceeded the criteria laid down for Gateway’s own students. In this respect, limited scholarships are on offer to students who have excelled in academics, sports and co-curricular activities.
