PM in fresh bid to rally support for All-Party Govt.

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena will meet political party leaders separately next week in a fresh bid to convince them to join an all-party government.
The move comes amid reluctance by several parties to join an all-party government, a senior official at the Prime Minister’s office said.
The PM is also hoping to visit the offices of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) and the National People’s Power (NPP), parties that have refused to join an all-party government.
In the event that talks aimed at forming an all-party government fail, the hope is to form a multi-party government with the majority of ministerial posts going to Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MPs, the official said.
Some political parties have already indicated their willingness to join such a multi-party government and hold ministerial positions. Several SJB and SLFP MPs too will be part of this government. Some are already serving in the current administration.
It had been earlier hoped to form the new government before the vote on the Appropriation (Amendment) Bill on September 2 but the official said this would not happen now.
Instead, the formation of a new government and a Cabinet reshuffle may take place at the end of next month.
The plan is to keep the government going until the country regains a measure of economic stability, the official said.
