SLR ties up with Childfund Rugby for partnership programmes
View(s):The Grassroots to Global Series — Sri Lanka Forum 2022, organised by Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR), began at the Mandarina Hotel in Colombo, with Childfund Rugby, a renowned organisation for development promotion, coming forward as the main sponsoring body.
The forum, which began yesterday, ends today with the main objective of promoting female rugby and the development of leadership among women who are engaged in rugby. Therefore, 25 School Physical Training Instructors from covering seven different provinces were given the opportunity to take part in the first ever rugby leadership programme.
“Childfund Rugby helps young people practice the skills they need to keep safe in a rapidly changing environment and supports global efforts to achieve gender equality and end all forms of violence against children,” said Simon Whyte, the Chairperson of Childfund Alliance
The physical training instructors were chosen as participants, as it will help take forward the information to the grassroots level. Dr. Amal Harsha de Silva, the Secretary of Ministry of Sports and Rizly Ilyas, President of Sri Lanka Rugby will be invited as chief guests for the event while the forum is moderated under the guidance of SLR Exco member Dr. Samantha Nanayakkara, with the assistance of former Sri Lankan women’s rugby captain Sujani Rathnayake and Harini Jayamaha.
