Air India is set to commence flights to the Jaffna International Airport in Palaly next month.
Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) Chairman Priyantha Fernando explained that Air India’s representative at a meeting held on Thursday had indicated their intention to commence their operations to Palaly from next month with two flights per week.
The aircraft is said to be a 75-90 seat capacity carrier and it was noted that Indian travellers are not seasonal visitors.
Sri Lankan authorities had announced an intention to resume international airline operations to the northern airport from July 1. The airport first opened to commercial international flights with the landing of the inaugural Alliance Air flight from Chennai on October 17, 2019.
