Pathana, Thora reach Knockouts semi-finals
At Havelock Park, S. Thomas’ indicated that they are on a mission, as they dominated over Vidyartha in a fast paced game to emerge winners by 35-19 in the first quarter-final game. The winners scored their points from five converted tries and led the halftime 21-7.
Vidyartha on the other hand, were unstoppable whenever the ball was in their possession, but committed costly mistakes that prevented them from nearing the score of their opponent. Their three-quarter moves and ball handling were far superior to the Thomians, but they were only able to breach their opponent’s territory thrice to touch down. They managed to convert only two tries out of three.
Meanwhile Isipathana vandalised Dharmaraja by 38-6 after M. Rashminda scored a hat-trick at Royal College Sports Complex in the second quarter-final. They were dominant throughout, despite losing two of their players on yellow cards during different phases of the game.
The Green Machine scored their points from six tries and four conversions and led 19-6 at halftime. The Rajans scored from two penalties as they were well marked and thwarted by their opponents from breaching their territory.
Today St. Joseph’s will take on St. Anthony’s in the third quarter-final while Science College meets Wesley in the fourth quarter-final at Royal College Sports Complex. Isipathana will meet S. Thomas’ in the first semi-final which will be played at Havelock Park next Friday.
