St. Joseph’s grab major honours at drawn 17th Uva Battle of the Golds
View(s):Chathum Lakpriya of Bandarawela Central Collage claimed 10 wickets in the match with two five wicket hauls in both innings while St. Joseph’s College, Bandarawela claimed major honours in their drawn 17th Uva Battle of the Golds two-day big match played at Sooriyawewa last week.
Lakpriya, who took 5 for 43 in the first innings of St. Joseph’s and returned to claim 5 for 33 in the second innings and his performance was good enough to win the man of the match award as well.
After being put into bat first St. Joseph’s Bandarawela posted 142 in their first innings and restricted Bandarawela Central at 91 in their first innings. In the second innings St. Joseph’s declared after reaching 99 for the loss of five wickets, leaving a target of 142 runs to win. At close of play Bandarawela Central were 66 for the loss of two wickets as St. Joseph’s College won first innings points.
For his prolific bowling performance Bandarawela Central’s Chathum Lakpriya was named the man of the match, while his team mate Dulara Wijesuriya won the award for the best fielder. St. Joseph’s Yasiru Ruwantha and Uthpala Lankathilaka won the awards for the best batsman and best bowler respectively. Ruwantha remained unbeaten on 57 in St. Joseph’s second innings, after stroking 20 in the first essay, while Lankathilaka grabbed seven scalps to restrict Bandarawela Central to 91 in their first innings.
