The Gateway Graduate School Conducts its Convocation at BMICH, Colombo
View(s):The Gateway Graduate School, higher education and professional development arm of the Gateway Group, conducted its Convocation at the at BMICH, Colombo. Prof. Ananda Jayawardane, a Senior Professor in Civil Engineering at the University of Moratuwa, the Chairman of Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC, past Vice-Chancellor of the University of Moratuwa and a past Director General of the National Science Foundation, presided over the ceremony as the Chief Guest. Addressing the gathering, Professor Jayawardane, emphasised that ‘in today’s fast changing world, with the accelerated changes in the economies, technologies, shifting industries, complex problems, changing expectations of the younger generation, a refined set of skills have become key factors for success.’ He further emphasised the need to identify the gap between one’s present position and ultimate goal, through self- awareness, consciousness and independent will, to succeed in life and career.
Graduates and diplomates of the various international academic and professional programmes offered at the Gateway Graduate School in collaboration with prestigious institutions such as the University of Nottingham, the University of Central Lancashire, the University of Worcester, Pearson Edexcel and NCC Education, participated at the event. The members of the Board of Directors of the Gateway Group and other eminent people from the education sector, were present during the proceedings of the Convocation.
The prestigious R.I.T. Alles Award for the Highest Achieving Student for the Year 2019/2020/2021 was given away by Dr. Harsha Alles, the Chairman of the Gateway Group, to Rashintha Gimhan Peiris who graduated with a First Class Honours degree in Business Computing and Information Systems from the University of Central Lancashire, UK. Five students – Aamir Ahamed Salie, Ronan Nigel Gunasekera, Rashintha Gimhan Peiris, Dimanthi Nirmali Seneviratne, Sonali Hiranya Abeysinghe – received special awards for their achievements Regionally and Globally from NCC Education UK. The Overall Best Performance Pearson BTEC Level 5 Professional Diploma in Advanced Teaching was awarded to Marion Natasha Fernando. Seventeen graduates of the University of Nottingham’s MA in Education qualification were also felicitated. Ms. Hasini Gajadeera – Head School of Education, also received an award for a Decade of Commitment to the organisation.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr. Alles requested the awardees to take this message as they go out to the world: ‘do whatever you are doing correctly, before complaining – in short, comply and complain. Our country needs new thinking and new leadership’ He further encouraged them to ‘make that difference in the many lives they touch, to make this country a better place’
