Ashley leaves for Moscow
View(s):Veteran cinema journalist and film critic, Ashley Ratnavibhushana who is invited to be chairperson of Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema (NETPAC) jury at the prestigious Moscow Film Festival left for Russia last week.
President of the Asian Film Centre and Board Member and Jury Coordinator of the NETPAC, Ashley has been invited by the organisers of the International Moscow Film Festival.
A Journalist, author, film critic and film society activist, Ashley is one of the leading interpreters of Sri Lankan cinema to the world. He has introduced several Sri Lankan films and their directors to international film festivals.
Ashley is the Founding Editor of the journal Cinesith, (only cinema magazine published 44 issues in Sri Lanka). Co-author of Profiling Sri Lankan Cinema and Early Sri Lankan Cinema in association with South Indian Film Industry , Co-editor of LJP – Lester James Peries, Life and Work and Co-editor of An Incomplete Sentence – The Cinema of Dharmasena Pathiraja , Editor – Reminiscences - (published by Government Information Dept.), Co-Editor of Malini Up Above .
He is also the President of the Sri Lanka Film Critics’ Forum affiliated to International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) and President of the Sri Lanka Federation of Film Societies affiliated to International Federation of Film Societies (IFFS). He was the Coordinator for the 1st SAARC Film Festival held in Colombo in 1999 and Executive Coordinator of the Commonwealth Film Festival held in Colombo in parallel to CHOGM – 2013) & Senior Programmer to the International Film Festival, Colombo in 2015 & 2016.
