Quadruplets born in Puttalam healthy and safe: Doctors
View(s):The Puttalam Teaching Hospital – with its 70-year service in healthcare – created history by assisting in a quadruplet birth this week. This was the 24-year-old mother’s first delivery.
The caesarean birth produced one boy and three girls. The baby boy weighed 1 kilo and 600 grams, while the baby girls weighed 1kg 655gm, 1kg 470gm, and 1kg and 345gm.
Gynaecologist Dr Ruwan Samarasinghe said that it was his first multiple birth experience in the Puttalam Teaching Hospital and commended the Gynaecology Unit staff of the hospital for their collective effort in the successful delivery. “The operation was normal and successful. We did this with minimum resources available. We were able to save all five lives.”
“The infants are in good health and under the care of Paediatrician of the hospital Dr Shurin Jayawardene,” Dr Samarasinghe added.
Dr Jayawardena said: “The kids are healthy and safe. They are under our supervision.”
The young mother is a resident of Musniampuram, Puttalam and the father is a driver working overseas.
