Haroon and Kaya win Junior Match Play 2022 titles as Reshan bag Silver Division
View(s):Haroon Aslam continued his accurate and good golf to defeat the technically correct, pleasant K. Danushan 2 and 1 in a tense final of the Gold Division Boys, to claim the title of Junior Boys Champion 2022. Haroon was 3 up playing the 16th hole, but Danushan fought back to win the 16th with a birdie under pressure.
However, Haroon kept his cool and halved the 17th to win the title, just before his departure to the United States to further his studies, combined with the advancement of his golf as well.
Kaya overcame the long hitting Sherin Balasuriya in the Girls Gold Division, 2 and 1, to claim the title of Junior Girls Champion 2022. Kaya displayed the potential to go onto greater achievements with a confident performance in the Junior Championship 2022.
Reshan Algama defeated Jacob Norton quite easily 5 and 3, to annex the Silver Division of the Junior Golf Championship. In the Bronze division final, Thejas Rathis Kanth romped to an 8 and 7 victory over Saqeeb Zuhar. In the age group category of 9 and under, in the Copper Division, the smiling Yuvan Rathis Kanth beat Danik Daluwatte 5 and 3 over an extended 14-hole final.
The interesting five finals were followed by a simple prize giving ceremony with the members of Rukmini Kodagoda’s family participating to give away the awards. Perera and Sons Bakers Group was represented by Shan Perera, the senior most sister of Rukmini, Srima Senevirathne, another sister, Avishka Perera, Jith Senevirathne, Ruvini Kariyawasam and M. Jaimon. The awards ceremony was swiftly and graciously conducted by Niloo Jayatilake, who thanked the sponsors, family of the late Rukmini Kodagoda, for the continuous generousity for the Junior Match Play Golf.
