Moors, Galle eye outright wins
Moors SC and BRC were closing on to record outright victories in the Major Club 3-day cricket tournament in their respective matches against Kandy Customs CC and Galle CC. At Thurstan ground Moors were in a strong position to record their third outright win as Kandy Custom CC were trailed by 165 runs with only five wickets in hand.
After bowling them out for 116 thanks to leg spinners Theesan Vithushan and Chanuka Dilshan, Moors scored a formidable 377 for 6 declared. Dinuka Dilshan (108) and Pabasara Waduge (85) provided a solid opening stand of 126 while their middle order Pasindu Sooriyabandara and Ramesh Mendis too cashed in hitting half centuries.
Kandy Customs CC batting the second time and left with the daunting task of erasing a deficit of 261 runs were struggling on 96 for 5, needing a further 165 runs to avoid an innings defeat when play gets underway today.
In the other game BRC just 38 runs short of winning their game against Galle CC at BRC grounds. Chasing 73 to win, BRC were 35 for 3 when bad light stopped play. The matches will continue today.
