Marking another landmark in its journey in professional accounting education in Sri Lanka, the Institute of Certified CMA Sri Lanka is awarding the Diploma in Accounting & Business Management programme accredited at NVQ Level 06 – ‘Higher National Diploma’ in Accounting by the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC).
The Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka (CMA Sri Lanka) is the national professional management accounting institute in Sri Lanka incorporated by the Act of Parliament No. 23 of 2009. The Institution was initially established as the “Society of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka” in 1999 with the technical assistance of CMA Canada (now CPA Canada) and financial assistance from Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and, inaugurated on 3rd June 2000. CMA has progressed to become a body with over 16,000 students and 2,400 members.
Currently CMA is a member of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), the global organisation for professional accounting bodies, South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA) and the Confederation of Asian and Pacific Accountants (CAPA).
CMA Sri Lanka offers a Professional Management Accounting study programme to students to follow the career pathway in Management Accounting, Financial Accounting & Finance and Business Management. This study programme has been carefully designed based on the International Education Standards stipulated by the International Federation of Accountants, the apex body for world-wide professional accounting bodies.
CMA is the first Professional body in Sri Lanka to offer Computer Based Testing in association with Pearson VUE and also offers e-learning and virtual revision lectures with a number of CMA Certified Educational Partners throughout the country. Based on a thorough mapping process, the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC) granted the recognition for this programme by offering the NVQ Level 06 equivalence status which is ‘Higher National Diploma’ for this programme. With this recognition, now CMA Sri Lanka students will be able to obtain a well recognized ‘Higher National Diploma’ in one year’s period of study programme making them readily employable in the competitive job market in private and public sector locally and internationally. They will be assisted in obtaining practical training in industry, audit, services, IT and SME sector.
CMA provides a professional education at an affordable cost while enabling students to qualify locally with international recognition saving valuable foreign exchange.
These students who obtain the Diploma Level qualification will be given the opportunity to continue their studies at the professional level to become a Professional Management Accountant recognised locally and internationally. Fully qualified Members with 3 years of practical experience will be entitled to obtain Associate Membership with the designation ACMA and after 5 years of senior experience to obtain the Fellowship with the designation FCMA.
