Ananda beat DSS to clinch Western Province Schools Rugby 7s title
View(s):In the semi-finals Ananda beat Zahira College by 17-7 after scoring from three tries and a conversion against a converted try, while D.S. Senanayake single-handedly thrashed President’s College, Maharagama by 29-0. D.S. Senanayake scored from five tries and two conversions.
In the third place playoff President’s Maharagama overcame Zahira by 19-12. The winners scored from three tries and two conversions, while the losers were able to score from two tries and a conversion.
Ananda College, D.S. Senanayake College, President College, Maharagama, Zahira College, C.W.W. Kannangara Maha Vidyalaya, Asoka Vidyalaya, Bandaranayake College, Gampaha, Dharmapala College, Pannipitiya and Siri Piyaratharana Maha Vidyalaya, Padukka participated in the tournament organized by Ministry of Education and the Western Province Education Department as part of the Inter-School Sports Festival 2022.
The organising team was spearheaded by Mrs. Dhammika Kulatunga, the Assistant Education Director of Physical Education and Sports, with the assistance of Western Province Education Director, Srilal Nonis.
President of Sri Lanka Rugby, Rizly Illyas contributed a special sponsorship for the tournament, while Sri Lanka Rugby Referees’ Society contributed with refereeing and officiating. Roshan Deen, the Chairman of Sri Lanka Rugby Development graced the awards ceremony as chief guest while Mrs. Dhammika Kulatunga, Trizvii Marikkar (Principal, Zahira College), Aufer Johar (Rugby Coordinator, Zahira College) and Tournament Coordinator K.S.P. Karunaratne were also present during the awards distribution.
