Four Law Faculty undergraduates were injured as a result of the ragging incident and are being treated at the Kandy Hospital, while two others who were injured were treated at the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital.
Faculty of Law undergraduates at the university are against any form of ragging, and they have stood against ragging on several occasions, one of the students said. Faculty of Law Dean Deepika Udugama was unable to be contacted.
The university’s proctor, Prof Tilak Bandara had received complaints about the incident, and inquiries were been made by him and administrative officials.
The Police have also begun investigations on the complaints received, into this incident of assault and intimidation. The admin office is yet to take a firm decision as to whether the Faculty of Arts would continue its sessions online to curb ragging within the university.
