2022 A/L exams from December 5 onwards
View(s):The Examinations Department has decided to hold the 2022 Advanced Level exams on December 5, despite the requests of those sitting for the exam a second time.
This was revealed in a Cabinet briefing on Friday, where the Mass Media and Transport Minister said educational decisions are not taken based on requests.
As the A/L results were released only last month, the decision to conduct the 2022 A/L exams within a small time period of three months was criticised by many second time A/L candidates.
“We cannot change schedules because the exam affects the entire lives of a wide range of students,” the Minister said. He also elaborated that the students have to bring change to the system, and not vice versa.
Mr. Gunawardena also announced the Cabinet proposal to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University and the Calgary University of Canada presented by the President as the Defence Minister, was approved.
The Minister said the university needed to exchange students and lecturers with international universities to gain international recognition.
“This would help to raise the university to an international standard,” the Minister said.
