College of Fashion & Design (CFD): One of the finest in South Asia
View(s):The post-pandemic environment for the system of education has been a challenging space to say the least; not just for educators and students across the globe, but also for the platforms and providers that are meant to facilitate it. Prevalent economical and societal impacts have changed behaviour patterns and the general framework for how we should move forward with decisions made on a student’s ever-changing future; hence the demand for an equally progressive education institute with the ability to reflect these changes in both vision and outlook.
Understanding this need, fashion industry leader- Colombo Fashion Week/CFW and education expert- Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT) came together in a joint venture to form the College of Fashion & Design (CFD); a collaboration of top institutes and universities across the globe, encompassing the distinct design sense and culture of cities such as Milan, London and Los Angeles. Giving students access to high quality design-based education at over 50 Universities & Colleges in the EU and also in the UK and US; CFD draws inspiration to create a unique design identity in the world of design and across international markets.
This progressive education platform has been curated to offer the most relevant design courses that equip the next generation of empowered design entrepreneurs, creative leaders and chief executives. The unique programmes offered at CFD; such as Pre-Degree/Foundation (straight after the O/Ls), Undergraduate, Postgraduate and also the shorter professional courses; are an expertly curated selection of the most vital epicentres in the creative and design world. They are tailor-made to create an empowered generation of professionals that contribute positively to the society and economy; built on the platforms of Sustainability, Circularity and Responsible Design; led with the belief that ‘design is a solution to an existing problem’.
FASHION DESIGN
A 3- year course that aims to educate you on how to both create and operate a fashion line by means of a comprehensive study plan curated to train highly qualified professionals with creative and technical skills, styling and pattern making, photoshoots, launching & managing a business, understanding the fashion market, managing fashion events and how to handle clients.
INTERIOR ARCHITECTURE DESIGN
A 3-year course that aims to build your ability to understand your client’s needs and behaviours, and how to blend them with social and ergonomic factors in order to design spaces that can be effectively lived in and used. You will also learn how to detect and improve the relationship between interior design and the nature of the services supplied in specific spaces.
MICD is the patron and mentor of the Interior Architecture department of CFD.
GRAPHIC DESIGN & VISUAL COMMUNICATION
A 3-year course that aims to train creative designers with the necessary theoretical and practical background knowledge to design visual communication projects in the fields of multimedia, interactive communication and hypermedia; with a sound command of leading tools and methods of application benchmarked against top tier industry professionals across the world.
CFD comprises of an academic team that includes qualified Sri Lankan and International lecturers who are high achievers within their individualized spheres, which also includes high calibre growth. They participate in scheduled lectures and knowledge sharing of their experiences, enhancing the transfer of ideas to students.

Sustainable Fabric Innovation Board
The Sustainable Fabric Innovation Board is a further enhancement to the foundation of CFD, bringing together professionals that specialise in leading fabric innovation with knowledge and industry expertise. Sustainable fabrics are a global need and this board aligns students to this thought process while encouraging individually motivated innovation, led by regional & global fabric experts.
