Choose your path: Standard or Graduate Entry
The LLB programme of the University of London at RIC gives you the option to pursue the degree either through the Standard Entry or Graduate Entry. The standard entry is a full-time option with course duration of 3 years. Similarly, the Graduate Entry route opens doors to both legal and non-legal professionals where they can study at their pace with part-time study option that can be completed just within 2 years. The laws programme at RIC is directly overseen by an expert panel of academics.

Your choice of role ranges from becoming an Attorney-at-law in Sri Lanka, a Barrister or Solicitor in England and Wales or a legal counsel in any other country, an adjudicator, judge, arbitrator, mediator, or venture into the space of corporates and become a corporate lawyer, company secretary, Management Consultant or Tax Consultant.

A notable RIC Alumnus, Dr. Milhan Ikram Mohamed, LLB (Lond), LLM (Cantab), PhD (Cantab), Attorney-at-Law graduated from RIC with First Class Honours in 2010. Upon the completion of his PhD at the University of Cambridge on a Cambridge Trust Scholarship, he returned to Sri Lanka and joined the Chamber of Mr. Sanjeeva Jayawardena, who served as the President’s Counsel. Dr. Milhan then continued to practice as a junior Counsel in the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka.
RIC law students shine in global competitions
Students at RIC continue to excel beyond their academics, participating in global Moot competitions, for example the Willem C. Vis Mooting Competition 2022 held in Hong Kong, where the team from RIC was part of the top 32, competing against over 300 teams from across the world. Emma Premaratne of the RIC team was awarded honourable mention for the best individual oral advocate. Likewise, the Negotiating Team representing RIC emerged overall winners at the Commercial Mediation Competition organized by the Moot Court Bench of Sri Lanka, with Binuri Weerasinghe emerging as the competition’s Best Mediator. Furthermore, Naika Gooneratne and Treshan Fernando from Team RIC received the ‘Spirit of the Moot Award’ with their exceptional performance at the KDU Criminal Moot Competition 2022.

RIC continues to improve its quality of education by focusing on providing its students with a world class study environment, cemented by the Moot Court facility within the campus premises itself, where students are equipped to prepare for real-court scenarios.
RIC Law Journal: Taking legal writing and research to new heights
As law students at RIC embark upon their undergraduate life, the art of legal writing can be daunting and a formidable challenge, especially to those who are new to the profession. RIC Law Journal, which was first introduced in Sri Lanka in 2021 is the first student-led journal for Law in the country. The journal eliminates most traces of unfamiliarity with the process of analysing and providing one’s insight as to the current issues pertaining to law and makes the endeavour more accessible and inviting to budding lawyers looking to dip their toes in the craft of legal writing and research. The journal encompasses a plethora of legal academic articles on various areas and issues pertaining to the law in a domestic and international context from law students, law graduates, and lawyers across the country. The law students of RIC have published two volumes of RIC Law Journal that are readily available on ResearchGate and Academia.edu. RIC Law Journal Vol III is currently under progression that will be published soon.
