Students and Parents Visit Curtin Colombo
View(s):Curtin Colombo conducted its first ever physical open day on October 1, at their brand-new campus at Nawam Mawatha, Colombo. The event was attended by students after A/L who were looking for studying at a top ranked Australian university in Sri Lanka. During the open day, the prospective students were able to seek clarifications about study options from the academic staff, meet student counsellors for admission and scholarships related queries, and explore the campus life.
Curtin Colombo is the latest addition to Curtin University’s global operation that includes campuses in Western Australia, Malaysia, Dubai, Singapore, and Mauritius. In recent years, Curtin University has achieved its highest-ever result in the QS World University Rankings by rising to 193rd globally and continues to be positioned in the top 1% of universities worldwide (QSWUR 2023).
Ms. Anjalie Gamage, a senior lecturer in Computing, addressing the prospective students said that an attractive feature of the courses offered at Curtin Colombo is the flexibility; students have the option of completing the full course in Sri Lanka or transferring to Curtin University in Australia as Curtin Colombo offers identical programmes and follows the same academic calendar. She also noted that students would be able to save substantial costs if they complete the full course in Sri Lanka while enjoying the benefits of living with one’s family.
Curtin Colombo offers undergraduate courses in Engineering, Computing, and Business. The portfolio of Engineering degrees includes Civil and Construction Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Mechatronic Engineering, while Computing Degrees on offer Include Software Engineering, Cyber Security, Information Technology, and Computer Systems and Networking. Bachelor of Business Administration degree at Curtin Colombo covers International Management, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and Digital Marketing specialisations.
Dr. Chandana Kulasuriya, a senior lecturer in Engineering who delivered a speech about the learning experience at Curtin Colombo said that the Curtin courses are designed with input from industry partners, and the industry connections and work-integrated learning opportunities at Curtin Colombo would help the students to become highly employable. Students will graduate with practical skills, industry connections, and knowledge needed to succeed in the global marketplace.
The next intake at Curtin Colombo is scheduled for commencement in February 2023 at Nawam Mawatha in Colombo. The students enrolling for the next intake will be eligible for a 25% fee scholarship applicable for their first year of study.
