Rathnapala and Perera best among marathoners
T.W. Rathnapala of Eastern Province and M.S.M.P. Perera of Western Province won the Men’s and Women’s segments of Nestomalt Marathon, while K.A.S.N. Perera of Western Province won the Women’s Cycling event, held coinciding with the 47th National Sports Festival in Gampaha yesterday.
Rathnapala clocked 2 hours and 25.29 minutes to brace the finishing line first among hundreds of runner that competed in the annual long distance run. R.A.P.D. Amarasiri of North Central Province clocked 2 hours and 26.08 minutes to finish second followed by W.M.S. Kumara of North Western Province, who clocked 2 hours and 26.38 minutes.
Behind Perera, who was the first among women to finish the run in 2 hours and 49.14 minutes, was followed by H.M.W.G.W.M. Herath of Central Province, who clocked 2 hours and 54.11 minutes at second and A.L.S.D. Liyanage from Sabaragamuwa Province, who completed with a timing of 2 hours and 57.28 minutes.
